Our new flavor is a twist on traditional chocolate and caramel bars: Salazon’s new bar adds just of touch of 100% organic caramel (using about 20% less caramel than most other caramel chocolate bars), resulting in a unique, great tasting bar with less sugar and calories.
And of course it’s sprinkled with a touch of sea salt to bring out the flavors in the chocolate and caramel.
Salazon Chocolate Co. is proud to be partnering with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy for this new bar - 
a portion of the gross proceeds will go towards the Appalachian Trial Conservancy's work to protect the trail.

Story

In the summer of 2009 we were on a backpacking trip to Utah. We'd brought along the usual snacks, you know - energy bars, salty trail mixes, and, as always, some organic dark chocolate bars (a great super food). As we sat around the campfire that night, it struck us that a simple, salted-dark chocolate bar would be the perfect energy food. The idea for Salazon was born.

We then immersed ourselves in the world of chocolate, and after visiting organic cacao farms in the Dominican Republic and perfecting the recipe (every bar is hand sprinkled), we launched Salazon Chocolate Co., the first salted chocolate-based brand on the market. Salazon’s chocolate bars are made from 100% organic, single-origin, Rainforest Alliance–certified beans in small batches in the USA, and hand-sprinkled with natural, solar-evaporated sea salt.

Chocolate

Our subtly sweet, 57% dark chocolate starts with the best organic cacao beans available: 100% organic, Rainforest Alliance-certified cacao beans exclusively from the Dominican Republic, and we use only the famous Hispaniola-type beans which have been fermented and sun-dried. Then we add only the best additional ingredients such as organic, fair trade evaporated cane juice and organic vanilla. This produces a smooth not too sweet, not too bitter chocolate that pairs perfectly with our sea salt.

Sea salt

We looked for the perfect sea salt for our chocolate and we found it: our sea salt is completely natural, unrefined and has absolutely no additives. It is simply sea water harvested from pristine areas in the Southern Atlantic and then solar evaporated, that’s it! The natural minerals and subtle nuances of flavor make it the perfect balance for our organic chocolate.
